LUIS MARTINEZ – ¡Hay que Reírse!

Luis Martinez is a Colombian Uruguayan filmmaker & podcaster who grew up in both South America and New York but now calls San Diego his home. His production company 2AMBurrito has made 2 feature SAG films as well as several shorts that have had festival runs and his films “Slap Worthy”, “El Ladron de Bicicletas” and his short doc “Oscar’s Story” have all been screened at previous SDLFF editions.  His podcasts Mi Gente Show and Fireside Chats with Big Chief Burrito have over 50k downloads across multiple platforms and he has been part of the SDLFF curating team for the last few years focusing on finding unique Latino comedies for his “Hay Que Reirse” comedy showcase.  The showcase is meant as a counter balance to the more serious and important films that make up the festival due to our location and audience and tries to bring some much needed levity alongside those films.  Along with curating the showcase Luis will be previewing films and showcases and streaming with live events and interviews leading up to and during the festival to promote filmmakers and other curators thru MiGenteShow.
